Volunteering June 3, 2009

In my life I have many opprotunities to do volunteer work. At my church we do service projects very often. One of the things we do most often is make blankets. At one activity we made large quilts and stuffed bears for children in Africa. Another time we made blankets for the Children’s Advocacy Center. We also do lots of various work for people. For one activity we had an odd jobs race where we went around to different houses of people that attend my church to do random things around their house. At one house we weeded a garden. At another we cleaned a lady’s kitchen.
Also I am a part of a class at my school called Peer Group. We do many things to help with the community. Our class just finished a project called Community 101. We were given five thousand dollars by the PGE Foundation to distribute to local non-profit organizations. With this project we had to research different non-profits in our community that dealt with homelessness and foster care. We had chosen those two topics with help from our whole student body. After that we brought representatives form the non-profits into our class for interviews to tell us why they thought their non-profit should receive our money. The next week we went on site visits to the non-profits to actually see them in action. After that began the process of deciding which non-profits to give our funds to. We then set up an awards ceremony where we handed out the checks to the non-profits we had selected.
I feel very priveleged that I have had so many opprotunities to volunteer so early in my life. I think that volunteering is a very rewarding thing because you know that your actions are helping to make someone else’s life better.
Santa Claus June 1, 2009

Ever since I was a young child, Christmas has been my favorite holiday of the year. Part of the reason for this is Santa Claus. He is such a hero to me. Santa spends his whole year planning for that one joyous day. He has so much to do in so little time. He has to go through all of the children in the world and decide if they’re on the Naughty or Nice list. This must take forever, but he is so dedicated to making it a special day for everyone that he perseveres and gets through it. Then he has to go through all of the Christmas lists to tell the elves what to make. Not to mention, he has to take care of all the elves and make sure they do their job. Not only that, but he is like a father figure to the elves and cares for each and everyone one of them. The most inspiring thing about Santa to me, though, is his ability to visit every child in the world on Christmas Eve. He never forgets anybody, even if he’s just giving them coal because of their naughty behavior. These attributes of Santa make me want to be a good ol’ jolly person just like him.
Cheetahs May 20, 2009

The animal that I would most want to see in the wild would be a cheetah. I went to Washington DC a couple years ago. We had a few extra hours before our next appointment so our tour guide suggested we go to the zoo. We saw many different animals like elephants, lions, but the one type I was most entranced by was the cheetahs. When we passed by their area the cheetahs were right up next to fence dividing us. They seemed very bored and helpless like they wanted to be out of there. I think it would be really neat to see a cheetah in its natural habitat.
Yellow May 5, 2009

I have to say that yellow is such an amazing color. There’s not a single thing that is yellow that brings your spirits down. Everything that has to do with yellow is happy.

Like smiley faces for example. The general color for smiley faces has always been yellow. People try and change the color of smiley faces , but come on, it definitely does not have the same effect as a yellow smiley face. They’re too classic.

Sunshine is also something that portrays yellow. And guess what, sunshine is happy. Just look at the grin he’s wearing.

And being in the sun can make you thirsty which is why lemonade is so fantastic. Everybody loves lemonade. People can’t resist stopping at a kid’s lemonade stand to help them earn money. It’s completely refreshing.

Sunflowers are my favorite flower, mostly because they’re yellow. They’re very pretty and make me smile anytime that I see them.

But the thing that is yellow that I love most is the yellow brick road. The first musical I was in was The Wizard of Oz; I was a munchkin. The spring musical school is my favorite part of the year. Everyone is so nice and I love them all. Just thinking about it makes me happy. Rehearsals are the best part of my day and the whole production is easily the best part of my year.
For me everything yellow represents being happy and being happy is a good thing to be.
=)
